About the program |
| The
Houston Community College System Teacher Preparation program is designed
to introduce students to the teaching profession and provides them with
a running start toward requirements of four-year university education
programs. Students will be shown essential strategies for
effective teaching that include problem-based and student-centered
learning as well as mentoring.
Students may enroll in one of several tracks within the program: Early Childhood / Elementary Education PreK-4th and Mid-Grade 4-8 Education with specializations in Math and Science or Language Arts and Social Studies. Once students receive their associate degree from HCCS, they can enroll in any number of education programs offered by local colleges and universities, such as Houston Baptist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Southern University, St. Thomas University, Prairie View A&M University, and the University of Houston campuses (Central, Downtown, Clear Lake, and Victoria). The first step to enrolling in the HCCS
program is to fill out an application with the college. For admissions
information, call 281-COLLEGE or apply online at http://www.hccs.cc.tx.us/. |
