Early Childhood Certificate programs
A variety of opportunities exist for those who choose a career of working with young children: early childhood teachers, center directors, teacher assistants in public or private schools, family day home providers, information and referral specialists, public advocates, children's attendants, children's merchandise specialists, hospital child life specialists, among other positions. A career in child development requires a person who has a positive self concept, is energetic and reliable, is a lifetime learner, and genuinely likes being with young children.

Several options are available to participants in the HCCS Child Care and Development Studies Program:
  • The student may select individual courses to sharpen personal skills or to meet state licensing requirements
  • The student may take specific courses, representing a minimum of one year, for an Early Childhood Certificate
  • The student may take required Child Care courses plus other general education and elective courses to earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree
