Q: What is the Teacher Preparation Program?

A: The Houston Community College System’s Teacher Preparation Program is a 2-year program that introduces students to the teaching profession.  Students will gain essential knowledge and skills for effective teaching and earn required credit hours towards a 4-year college or university of their choice.

Q: What are the requirements for acceptance into the Teacher 
            Education Program?
     
 

A:         Must pass all levels of the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP)
            exam.

Q:  When can I enter the program?

A: Three times a year; in the Fall and Spring terms and again in the Summer.

Q: When and where are classes offered?

A:  Please refer to course schedules in the HCCS catalog for specific
             times and locations.

Q:  Are there advising sessions?

Q:  What kind of degree will I receive at the end of the 2-year
                 program?

A:  An Associates Degree.

Q:  Will HCCS course hours transfer?

A:  Yes.  HCCS course hours completed will qualify to be transferred to any 4-year college or university based on the prescribed Education degree plan.

Q: What if I already have some college credit hours; can I transfer those hours into the HCCS' Teacher Preparation Program?

A: Existing college credit hours must be reviewed by an academic advisor or counselor to determine transfer eligibility.

Q:  Am I eligible for financial aid?

A: The Financial Aid Office encourages students to apply.  For further  information call the nearest HCCS campus location.

Some Texas Grant money is also available.  Students can apply for the TEXAS Grant II Program that provides grant aid to financially needy students enrolled in Texas public 2-year colleges, ask your HCCS counselor for additional information.
