Mentoring Program

The Teacher Preparation Program at Houston Community College System will offer a newly created Mentoring Program for its TTP students.  In its efforts to provide students with a comprehensive education experience, HCCS has developed a mentoring program to serve and help TPP students.

HCCS’ mentoring philosophy is that the fundamental role of the mentor is to support and assist, not evaluate or assess the TPP student.  The role of the mentor is to help the new TTP student to develop into an independent, fully functioning reflective teacher who will regularly engages in problem-solving related to his or her own teaching.

The goals of the TTP Mentoring Program:

  • Improve student performance
  • Increase student retention during the academic training period
  • Promote the personal and professional well-being of new TPP students

The mentoring program will implement various styles of mentoring concepts that will be applied to students based on concern and areas of need.  Students will have a one-to-one and/or group counseling with a mentor teacher that will address their concerns or inquiries related to their TTP studies.  Houston Community College System and the Teacher Preparation Program are proud to facilitate in the academic goals of its students and create a successful and meaningful experience that will prepare them for a career in education.
